Santogold x Diplo

Dub dub dub....oh what I would be without dub.

I'll admit at first the party dub, (waaaaaah, you know I'm talking about) didn't much appeal to me more than a novelty. The genre blew up way quick though and now who doesn't dig some dub.Since then I've heard Hyper, Hard, 2-step, and all sorts of other kinds from straight DnB x reggae to the new 8-bit breaks. Yeah it's a vast landscape of large bass rhythms willing to shake your bones till they rattle. And how awesome does that sound?

Anyways I've been on a Diplo binge ever since I heard the new M.I.A. tracks. Diplo if you didn't know was the main producer behind her album and they're dating...just saying. Mainly the single is what intrigued me on M.I.A.'s new album XXXO, if you haven't heard check out THIS youtube link (actually I've linked it HERE to ShowHype.com because allegedly the video is too graphic and racy for YOUTUBE, which is owned by Google so I'm sure counts as a farce), it's a straight punk anthem with an electronic twist and it's just done so well I think. Well enough to not deviate from punk but still sound electronic. Truth is I had never really heard stuff from Diplo or at least recognized it and now that I've been going back I'm a bit upset knowing I never heard him...I love though how the more producers I learn about the more blown away I am.

Diplo started as famous house DJ in the 90's. since then he's moved on to producing and helped introduce some awesome projects like M.I.A. and Major Lazer. He's a talented DJ mainly for some of the rhythms he'll pull around they're usually a bit more tribal using pretty exotic percussions. The story goes Diplo played a set in Brazil where he was introduced to the Funk De Rio from Rio de Janeiro and it's interesting to see how the different rhythms built on latin percussions drive house tracks. Mainly because house gets really repetitive...although it doesn't have too (maybe my next update should be some eye-opening house!? ...anyway)...have a peep this is a great mash up of Santigold's 2008 release Santogold.

It's just an awesome mix, there's b-52's, a Dead Kennedy sample, a short loop from a 50 cent track...just a bunch of awesome hooks for a great mix ...
